IFA: Europese consumenten vinden plasma het mooist

Plasma-tv-schermen worden mooier gevonden dan lcd-tv’s, zo blijkt uit Europees onderzoek. 61% Van de respondenten geeft de voorkeur aan plasma. Hierbij wordt vooral het zwart, het contrast en de kleur van de plasmaschermen goed beoordeeld.

Sony launches BDP-S500 Blu-ray player

In addition to announcing its “low-end” BDP-S300 will be pond-skipping to Europe, at IFA today Sony also announced its latest Blu-ray player, the BDP-S500. Before we start in, and it’s neither here or there, but didn’t Sony notice that “S500” is the most common consumer electronics model name around? It’s the John Smith of tech, if you will. (See: Sony’s other S500 and S500, Nikon’s S500, Samsung’s S500, Canon’s S500, Casio’s S500, etc.). That aside, we can find little about this new player that differs from the BDP-S300: both feature HDMI (duh), 24p, and x.v.Color, and Dolby Digital Plus — only the S500 has Dolby True HD and DTS-HD1, and HDMI 1.3. Is that worth £200 (about $400) more to you? If so, both will be out overseas by the end of October and run you £400 and £600 ($800 and $1200 US), and even come bundled with the Spider-man trilogy in the UK.

Philips unveils DVB-T-equipped 19- / 32-inch FlatTV LCDs

Philips certainly has been on a tear of late, and apparently, the company’s LCD releases are still flowing in from IFA. The latest duo to hit the scene are the ivory-colored 19-inch 19PFL5602D and 32-inch 32PFL7602D FlatTVs, both of which feature an integrated DVB-T tuner and dual HDMI inputs. The larger of the two includes Pixel Plus 2 HD technology and Digital Natural Motion to tackle those judders, while the smaller sibling doesn’t look to lose much outside of screen real estate. Sadly, mum’s the word on price and availability, but all signs are pointing to a European-only release.

IM-5 Pepperspray gun

De IM-5 van Avurt is niet-dodelijk wapen waarmee vooral vrouwen zich zouden moeten beschermen.

Met de laser kun je zien waarop je mikt en en het pistool bevat tot vijf pepperspray patronen. Het wapen schiet ruim 10 meter ver, is in meerdere kleuren verkrijgbaar en kost 300 dollar in Amerika. Is dit nodig? Volgens het ‘indrukwekkende’ filmpje op de website wel… Zou jij dit zelfverdedigingswapen graag bij je hebben op straat?

NME fleshes out 40GB HD VMD discs, hardware, still prepping for launch

New Medium Enterprises has been trying to get its VMD platform for high def optical discs out the door since late 2004, but we haven’t heard much solid. In the grand tradition of vaporous, cut-rate consumer electronics, NME’s publishing some puffy PR with terms like “The New Definition of High Definition” and “True High Definition”. What are they offering? Well, supposedly a budget player’s in the works that will play 1080i/p video for €179 ($250), upscale DVDs, and offers 45Mbps video (codecs go unmentioned) and 7.1 surround, region-free media, and a totally blockbuster lineup of Bollywood and Hollywood titles, including Mel Gibson classic “Apocalypto,” and “Passion of the Christ”. Color us totally impressed. No, really.

Magix Music Manager

We kennen Magix van hun uitstekende video- en audio-bewerkingsprogramma’s maar die zijn allemaal commercieel – ze kosten centjes. Magix Music Manager is echter gratis (al popt er wel bij de start een venster up dat vraagt of u Magix mp3 Maker wilt kopen). Met dit programma ordent u moeiteloos uw hele mp3- en cd-verzameling. Uiteraard kunt u ID3-tags bewerken, afspeellijsten maken en nummers op volgorde of door elkaar afspelen. Ook biedt het programma een mixer zodat u nummers naadloos in elkaar over kunt laten lopen (het synchroniseren van het tempo kan helaas alleen met mp3 Maker). Verder kunt u selecties op cd branden en bestanden converteren en exporteren naar draagbare audiospelers. Music Manager werkt ook onder Vista.

Samsung NV8

Samsung introduceert met de NV8 een camera die volgens Samsung de wereld precies zo vastlegt zoals jij dat wilt. Deze camera beschikt over 8,1 megapixel en de unieke Smart Touch gebruikersinterface. Tevens beschikt de camera over een DRIM-engine, een combinatie van technieken om schokkerige foto’s tegen te gaan. Met de ACB, Auto Contrast Balance, en ASR, Advanced Shake Reduction, kunnen foto’s haast niet meer mislukken.

Ook bij deze camera uit de stijlvolle NV-serie bepaalt het hoogwaardige Schneider Kreuznach-objectief elk kwalitatief beeld. De Samsung NV8 beschikt over 3x optische zoom en een 2,5 inch LCD display. Deze digitale camera kan op een lichtgevoeligheid van ISO 3200 rekenen, waardoor zelfs met de meest minimale sfeerverlichting de mooiste foto’s in heldere kleuren en met fijnzinnige details zijn te maken. Het is ook mogelijk om “high resolution” filmpjes te schieten in MPEG4- of SVGA-kwaliteit.

De Samsung NV8 is vanaf september 2007 in Royal Black en Iron Silver verkrijgbaar voor een verkoopadviesprijs van 249 euro.
