‘Nederlandse nierpatiënt toekomstig toerist Suriname’

Dat meldt het Nationaal Dagblad Suriname (NDS).

Nickerie heeft bij ziekenhuis L. Mungra sinds eind oktober vorig jaar een eigen nierdialysecentrum. Tot dan toe konden nierpatiënten in Suriname alleen behandeld worden in hoofdstad Paramaribo.

Het nieuwe centrum kan zestig patiënten per dag dialyseren en beschikt over elf apparaten, waarvan negen gebruikt worden. Deze zouden volgens de exploitant van het centrum, Brahma Medilab, voldoen aan de Nederlandse standaarden.

Gat in de markt

Lila verwacht dat Nederlanders naar Suriname komen, om zich in Nickerie te laten dialyseren. Tegelijkertijd zouden ze er een vakantie aan vast plakken. “Straks wanneer het ziekenhuis de beschikking heeft over een eigen CT-scan, is het niet uitgesloten dat ook mensen vanuit buurland Guyana naar Nickerie zullen afreizen om onderzoekingen te laten doen.”

Volgens het NDS zou deze vorm van medisch toerisme een gat in de markt vormen voor op Suriname gerichte reisbureus. De lage kosten voor nierdialyse in Suriname zouden daarbij een grote rol spelen. Het bij toeristen gebate Brahma Medilab gaat voor een periode van 25 jaar het centrum exploiteren.

Nieuwe usb-stick blijkt eenvoudig te kraken

Een gloednieuwe met biometrie beveiligde usb-stick van Ritech, die onder meer door de Nederlandse overheid wordt gebruikt, blijkt relatief eenvoudig te kraken. Dat meldt Tweakers.net.

Een op de vier belt via internet

In 2007 had 74 procent van de Nederlandse huishoudens een snelle internetverbinding. Vijf jaar geleden was dat nog maar 15 procent. Vooral het telefoneren via internet neemt sterk toe. Daarnaast komen televisiekijken en radio luisteren via internet steeds meer in trek. Ook het online kopen blijft fors groeien. Dit blijkt uit cijfers van het CBS die vandaag bekendgemaakt zijn.

Als deze Japanse Lex in de Nederlandse winkels zou komen te liggen, dan zal hij het vast heel goed doen. Het is namelijk een LED-balkje dat je aan je fietsspaken bevestigd. Wanneer je rijdt, wordt er een voorgeprogrammeerde boodschap weergegeven.

Je kunt de Lex via USB aansluiten op je PC, om zo de tekst in te stellen. Helaas is niet bekend of je deze Lex ook in de Nederlandse winkels zal gaan tegenkomen.

FCC treats apartment dwellers to cable competition

We realize what day it is, but we’re pretty certain the FCC isn’t messing around on this one. Right on cue, regulators have “approved a rule that would ban exclusive agreements that cable television operators have with apartment buildings, opening up competition for other video providers that could eventually lead to lower prices.” The move was apparently “unanimously approved,” and Chairman Kevin Martin went on to say that there was simply “no reason that consumers living in apartment buildings should be locked into one service provider.” Not surprisingly, a spokeswoman for Comcast proclaimed that “many consumers were likely to wind up paying more for services if the FCC’s interference in the competitive marketplace stands,” but it’s fairly safe to assume Verizon and AT&T see things very differently.

Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD player: $100, this Friday, Wal-Mart

Wal-Mart locations will be selling Toshiba HD-A2s for $100 — down from $200 — this Friday. Ridiculous, we know. Blu-ray gonna fight back? We hope so, we’d really like to get our hands on one for under $300, and not just by using our hookup that sells gear out of his trunk, you know?

Circuit City lists LG’s BH200 combo HD DVD / Blu-ray combo at $799

We’re not exactly sure what to make of this, but LG’s BH200 combo HD DVD / Blu-ray player is currently listed on Circuit City’s website for $799, which is about $100 cheaper than anywhere else and $200 cheaper than a certain blue competitor. It might well be a typo, of course (and probably is), but between Big Red’s pre-Black Friday price-chopping and our own fervent hopes for format peace, we’re going to keep on dreaming until we hear otherwise.
